Pre-Conference Intensives:

Candis Cantin ~
Ancient Roots - Future Visions” ~ Ancient History Of Medicinal Herbalism And Its Impact And  Role In The 21st Century” ~ Egyptian, Greek and Arab influences on our herbal traditions will be explored in this intensive class. What is Western herbology, what are its roots, and how do we express ourselves as medical herbalist in the 21st century? Candis' love for history and plants and art will be explored in this lively class. We will discover the true roots of western herbal thought and explore the journey that many of the plants that we love have taken.   

Charles Garcia ~ California Curandismo ~ A personal history of three generation of California Hispanic curanderismo, with an emphasis on native herbs and introduced herbal practices. Ritual, prayer, and aspects of the supernatural will also be discussed.

Pre-Conference Excursion:

Howie Brounstein ~ Botanizing Hike 
Spend the day in the beauty of the region on this day hike where we will walk 3-4 miles roundtrip and meet wonderful plants and landscapes.  Though the terrain will not be too steep or rugged, participants need to be in good shape, wear appropriate footgear and clothing and be prepared to both drive and walk over uneven ground.
We will most likely be visiting a Mountain stream area a short drive from Breitenbush's retreat center.  Carpooling will be arranged and sack lunches provided.  Bring a large, full water bottle.

Registration for the Pre-Conference Intensive is $100 plus lodging.
